    I don’t understand how they think they’re ever going to stop open source software with lots of community interest from being developed and distributed. All they’re doing is hurting their own reputation

      I think their goal is simply to force enough of it deeper underground that legit distributors (Steam, package managers, etc) won’t touch it and normal people will give up and buy the hardware instead of jumping through an increasing number of hoops to emulate.

      They can’t stop it, but they can make it a frustrating end-user experience, and that’ll be enough to put a lot of people off.

      Console gaming the way it exists now has one, maaaaybe two generations left. I don’t think Nintendo has a choice at this point but to fight interoperability tooth and nail for as long as they can.
