If you’re using AOSP, there’s a damn good chance that you understand security and what to be doing and what not to be doing.
If that is not you, then I would say no, you probably shouldn’t be using AOSP.

I’m nearly 100% certain that absolutely none of these protections work on AOSP. Only if you consent to be spied on by Google, does this stuff work. Even the advanced data protection stuff which lets you automatically have your phone reboot and stuff like that is only available through the Google settings which would require a Google Android device and not AOSP. This is a nothing burger.
First off, I would not buy it because it’s a Samsung and I can’t unlock it and install Lineage OS on it. And second of all, that 3,900 mAh battery is just no.
Oh, that’s gonna be a new fun paradigm. I’m still used to only charging lithium to 80% that having to make sure it’s charged to 100 will be a novelty for quite a while.
My device has 5,000 mAh, but I keep it between 30% at the lowest and 80% at the highest, so I’m only using 2,500 mAh of the total capacity. So having a larger battery would be really nice.
Well damn. Since I only use 50% of my battery capacity between 80% and 30%, that would mean I would get 5,000 mAh out of this thing instead of the like 2,600 I’m used to.
Do be aware that this requires advanced protection mode to be enabled, and from everything I can tell, advanced protection mode is a Google specific feature and not on AOSP. So it would require having a Google account or Google Play services installed on the device to use it. Since I run LineageOS with no Google Apps, I probably won’t get this.
Good point
They are bad for privacy, which is why I use them from the web instead of having an app installed anyway. Even if I could make it work with the apps, I don’t want the apps on my system because apps have more access than a website does.
Not really know. I can’t use some apps that absolutely depend on Google Play services, such as Uber and Lyft. But I can use the Uber website. So that doesn’t matter.
Throw lineage OS on this thing and it would be a battery beast. Just because then you wouldn’t have Google Play services crap running all the damn time.
Edit: I have the OnePlus Nord N200 5G from 2021 that I purchased new in the box in 2023. It has a 5,000 mAh battery and i charge it to 80% and discharge it to 30% before charging it again. So I am only using 2,500 mAh of the total capacity. With LineageOS it runs super well and the battery does not discharge quickly. If the average phone battery gets to 5,500 mAh that would give me an extra 250 mAh of usage which would be really cool.
Yeah, I’m not surprised considering the newest release is version 0.6.0. And it was released in January. The cake definitely needs some more baking time in the oven.
To be fair to you, the app still does not seem to pull it up, but instead of clicking the search button and it freaking out, telling me something went wrong, it just sits there and does nothing instead.
When I paste the URL from your instance, it tells me something went wrong. I went and found the original video on its original home instance and pasted that. And it just sits there and does nothing.
So a bit of a different problem, but still a problem all the same.
Right, now I’m just totally confused. Because the channel itself appears to be on tube.kockatoo.org But when I click the video, it brings me to the abnormalbeings.space domain
Wait a second. It seems like the domain itself doesn’t match the Federation. Did the domain change?
Considering the app is still like version 0.6.0, I’m guessing it’s a bug.
I haven’t confirmed this yet but apparently if you install the app from fdroid you don’t have to worry about that mess with the moderated instances like you would if you installed it from the Google or Apple stores
Well, that’s incredibly irritating. It’s a PeerTube instance, and I paste the link into the PeerTube app, and it fails.
Oh nice, it’s like 73.3 millimeters wide, which is within my range of less than 75 millimeters before foams start to become uncomfortable for me to hold. After adding a case to this, it should be right about 75 millimeters.
Personally, I’ve found that anything over 75 millimeters is a bit wide for my hand, and so I tried to keep my phone under 75 millimeters wide with a case included, so generally around 73 millimeters or so.
Only if you’re willing to accept Google spy services and all that shit on AOSP, this stuff doesn’t work.
