Google has news on what you will need to do for still being able to sideload apps:
* enable developer options
* confirm that you are not tricked
* restart phone and re-authenticate
* wait one day
* confirm with biometrics that you know what you are doing
* decide if you only want unrestricted installs for 1 week or forever
* confirm that you accept the risks
* enjoy the few apps that still have developers motivated to develop for a user-base willing to put up with this

I rely on xdrip+ for getting blood clucose measurements. That app is not on the play store.
So, in case I’ll loose my phone and have to buy one (or even just need to reset it) I’m 24hrs without blood glucose measurements…? Yeah that sounds great /s.
I’m aware. But, why should I go through so many extra steps and wait 24hrs to install apps on a phone I paid. Also, who is to say they won’t increase the requirements later in the name of “security”?
This is not a thing on Linux and Windows. Why should it be on android?
Not sure if you noticed but this is a one time process per phone.

Install it using ADB which doesn’t adhere to the 24 hour waiting period.
