Samsung Messages will be discontinued in July as part of Google Messages upgrade

9to5google.com

Samsung has shared an “End of Service Announcement” for its Messages app in the US. Google Messages is the intended replacement.

They stopped coincidentally around the same time Google announced that no third party messaging apps would be allowed to use RCS.
