The 14th gen didn’t only have problems with Linux and I still don’t trust Intel when they say they “fixed” the CPUs disassembling themselves. Given the money involved I’d definitely advise against 13th and 14th gen Intel in any case, just not worth the potential headache down the road. Either go with older Intel or AMD.
You’re right, I must’ve still been half a sleep or something because I swear when I read that earlier I read the Read Speeds flipped(so Raid 10 read speed as belonging to Raid-Z2 and vice versa)… my bad
Not quite, a Raid 10 offers you faster writes but slower reads, it’s not universally faster
Pretty much yes, codeberg integrates some additional services and branding on top (such as codeberg-pages for static page hosting or forgejo-runners for CI) but you can integrate those yourself as well, it’s just extra work.
If you’re looking for an open alternative to github/gitlab codeberg is imo definitely the way to go
technically the same as forgejo, codeberg is the main forgejo contributor/the org owning it

The lemmy docs are all a mess. Try writing something that uses the lemmy api and you start crying because looking up the endpoints in the code tells you what it does faster than their ‘documentation’
Just my two cents but if you decide to go for the self hosted GitLab approach I think Forgejo might be a better fit. It’s not as resource intensive as GitLab is but has all of the essential features you’d need from a forge.
Tempo is a really good Navidrome Client for Android imo
Navidrome is a subsonic server, feom the cursory research I did before setting it up it is also among the best supported/developed ones available.
This is absolutely awesome, I love it already. Substreamer had some real annoying quirks but it was the least worst option I found so far, this is better in almost every way for my use case
Gitea is managed by a for profit which is now offering a hosting service. That alone is already a conflict of interest because one of Giteas core features is the easy self hosting.
Then the contribution guidelines have been made stricter, anyone contributing now has to give up their copyright to the gitea management, meaning they could change the opensource license to a stricter one down the line without requiring community consent.
The concern is that as time passes features will be locked behind a premium tier for self-hosters or the self-hosting itself will be made more difficult in an effort to push their cloud service.
Due to some concerns about Gitea’s future I would recommend Forgejo instead. It’s a drop-in replacement with less concerning contribution policies and management structure.
Started off with just hosting a permanent Minecraft Server on a Raspberry Pi. Later added stuff like Nextcloud or Calibre Web to it and now it’s just a teensy tiny bit out of control (I’m self-hosting a good 2 dozen services now).
Of all the things I have or am self-hosting the Matrix server was the biggest pain in the ass. I seriously hope they streamline that process because as it was it’s too much work for what it does.
Imo if you’re going to be the only one who would use the instance it is not worth it. Instead look for an instance that lines up with your personal interests (maybe check out the db0 instance).
Content federation basically works on a subscription model so you will only see content from other instances if someonen your instance went out of their way to subscribe to it. Smaller instances suffer under this as they might not even see popular communities from other instances.
