  • Thank you. I have seen the ASM1166 mentioned before as part of such a solution, but the other suggestions were new to me.

Can you also confirm to me, have I got it right that (some/all? of) the N100 boards has everything included regarding CPU, GPU and RAM, while most other mini-ITX boards come without those? Or did I get that wrong? Sorry for bothering you, but it’s all still a bit confusing to me, and I have an empty Jonsbo N3 case, and some 22TB drives that are longing to move into their house.

  • There’s probably a Plex add-on for Kodi. At least, there is for Jellyfin and Emby. If you don’t like the UI, try changing it. I prefer the one called “Arctic: Zephyr - Reloaded”. You’ll need to customize the homescreen a bit to get the most out of it. That way you can make it show widgets of your content, e.g. the latest content added, continue watching, specific libraries, etc. That, at least, works very well with Jellyfin through the Jellycon add-on.

  • I just tried this on an Ultra.cc seedbox with yt-dlp installed, and the Fintube plugin configured to the right path for that, yet when I go to Dashboard > Fintube and click the Submit button to add a video to the download, nothing happens. Can’t figure out what’s wrong.

Maybe Jellyfin doesn’t have the necessary write permissions to write the file to that folder, but I’m not quite sure how to change those on such a seedbox, if that’s the case.

Any experience with this to share? Would the Submit button usually lead to a different view, or does it just stay on that video submission screen while the download happens silently in the background? The lack of action I experience when clicking it feels a bit awkward…

  • I’m not the person you’re asking, but I have some evidence to support the case that making it work without proprietary code is a problem. GrapheneOS, a privacy-oriented Android-based smartphone OS, write in their usage guide:

By default, GrapheneOS has always shipped with baseline support for eSIM, where users can use any eSIMs installed previously on the device. However, in order to manage and add eSIMs, proprietary Google functionality is needed. This is fully disabled by default.

eSIM support on GrapheneOS doesn’t require any dependency on Google Play, and never shares data to Google Play even when installed.

Edit: The fact that they haven’t implemented eSIM functionality without using the proprietary Google stuff, indicates to me that it’s either impossible/blocked or simply too hard with practically nothing in return to have been prioritised (yet?)

  • When I cast from the Jellyfin app on my phone (or the webapp) (to either the Jellyfin app on my Android TV box) or to Kodi (through Jellycon/Jellyfin addon or DLNA), the content is playing independently of my phone. This means that if I disconnect from the device I’m casting to in the Jellyfin app, the content will keep playing. It’s not streaming through my phone, but I can reconnect to regain remote control. I guess it’s the same case for Linux clients. If not, you can use Kodi with Jellycon addon (and not the Jellyfin addon, since that will sync the library to Kodi, which is unnecessary here). You will need a screen to set it up, but once that’s done + auto-launch Kodi at boot if you wish to, it will work headlessly if necessary as a client to cast to. Another reason to use Kodi is the very wide variety of formats it supports.
