  • I agree. Nextcloud is not so great. It does too many things. It’s still OK to use it, because it replaces file sharing in the cloud and you can have your own addressbook or contacts without sacrificing privacy in the Google cloud.

Nothing special. It just runs and updates well. It also tells you what you forgot to do.

I thought about using a dedicated addressbook, calendar and file sharing, but I’d need to have some time and at the moment it’s just running without headaches.

  • Basically what I said. Dovecot can be installed on every Linux or BSD system. You’ll need Pideonhole and FTS Flatcurve as extensions.

When you install fetchmail, you can let it connect to all your IMAP or POP3 servers. Each process will deliver your mail instantly to your own Dovecot server.

You’ll also need a certificate for Dovecot. This can be solved using Letsencrypt.

You can use any mail client you want. I use Fairemail on Android. On desktop and notebooks it’s Thunderbird.

  • I recently removed my 25Gbps PCIe dual port cards from my 2 servers because they were using 20W more. My entire rack including 2 UniFi PoE connections uses 90 W now (so 110 W just for having 25 Gpbs).

There is some heat from such cards, but usually it gets transported outside fine. The ones I bought did not come with a fan. I think you cannot operate them without one. The heat sinks get very hot.
