It’s nice because I don’t have to install it. Now I can use it when I work, on my computer at home or when my dad calls me.
But there is also merit to using a desktop application.
I haven’t used nextcloud in years, but last I read about it was to avoid AIO at all cost. There is another version and for some reason AIO was shit and not AIO was OK. Can’t remember why though.
I use KeePassXC. I have to sync it myself between devices (I use pCloud, syncthing and rclone). They have an android app that works great and there is an iOS app as wellapp, Strongbox. I’ve looked at replacing it a few times but nothing gave me the customisation Keypass offers.
You want DMZ. I have the same setup. DMZ will make router 1 consider router 2 to be WAN and not behind firewall.
Agreed. All the listed problems seem moot when viewing the project as a personal one.
I did some bad formatting during my initial setup of caddy. Having the formater is really handy.
I would assume it is OneDev, as the previous poster tried it as an alternative to Forgejo.
Had the same issue before, cable was the cause.

Best resource I found so far. I tried docker’s tutorial but it was not good at all.
I should look into AWS as well. Currently using a refurbished Datto NAS, running debian with everything in docker. I also have a r710! But I don’t have room for it at the moment.
I would never handle email myself. I would instead use a provider, turn off all filters and set up a mail server locally that works via the provider.
That way I don’t have to convince my ISP to set up a PTR for me, handle DMARC or SPF. Or care if my IP is blacklisted.
I assume a lot of people interested in selfhosting also enjoy the hardware side of things, making it more prominent than VPS.
How about running the OS from a USB stick? Put all images you want on it and mount NAS drives at boot.
If someone really wants this service but do not want to (or cannot) host it themself, https://ovpn.com offer this in their client. I used to have a pi-hole selfhosted but not anymore. Using their client on my phone as well solved the problem with blocking ads while not at home.
I get that a malware can get inside the worlds most secure system, if for example a user lets it in. What I am saying is that showing a honey pot in response to “ssh is more secure than a software that runs code without you giving consent and without your knowledge” not say anything, except what happens if someone gets in.
Running a honey pot for SSH and sharing logs only proves that people try to attack you, it does not really tell if SSH as such is vulnerable or not. It is a honey pot, people gaining access if the whole point.
Having a locked down but exposed SSH access is something else.
I hate googling things and just being lead back to reddit
This is so far my biggest problem med Lemmy and federation in general, all content is not in one place. It was nice just searching for problem x reddit and you found a solution 9/10 times (because you had everything in one place).
Om going to try that as well
My small repurposed NAS could not handle hosting everything posted here, but it would be really nice if I had the time to both set it up AND use them. I’m suprised it can even handle almost 10 apps (but I am the only user).
I also had a dream of setting up Guacamole and run Heroes of Might and Magic III turn based. But I never got it working (didn’t use docker back then) so I gave up on it.
